PM Shehbaz at OIC Summit Urges Swift Action for Palestine

ISLAMABAD: On Monday, PM Shehbaz at OIC Summit, urged immediate action to protect the inalienable rights of oppressed Palestinians. He called for ensuring the establishment of an independent state. The Prime Minister lamented the “deafening silence” of the international community in the face of the systematic extermination of the Palestinian people.

Following Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s call for an immediate halt to Israeli attacks against “our brothers in Palestine and Lebanon,” the Crown Prince also condemned the Israeli campaign in Gaza as genocide. PM Shehbaz echoed these sentiments during the joint Arab League and OIC meeting in Riyadh.

The Crown Prince further emphasized the growing ties between hostile Middle Eastern nations. He urged Israel to respect Iran’s sovereignty and refrain from attacking Iranian territory.

In his speech, PM Shehbaz at OIC Summit stated that Muslims have a moral and religious obligation to support the Palestinian people. “We should not allow this genocide and oppression to continue,” he said. Furthermore, PM Shehbaz expressed Pakistan’s strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing aggression against Lebanon. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s full solidarity with the Lebanese people.

Additionally, PM Shehbaz condemned Israel’s recent strikes against Iran. The Prime Minister warned that Israel’s escalating actions posed a serious risk of triggering a broader conflict in the region.

He emphasized that in order to ensure the prompt delivery of food, water, energy, and medical help, the summit must demand an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. It must also impose an arms embargo on Israel and lift the blockade against Gaza.

The Prime Minister also urged the summit to support UNGA Resolution 10/24. This resolution follows up on the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) historic advisory opinion, which condemned Israel’s war crimes.

In addition, PM Shehbaz called for a review of Israel’s membership in the United Nations. He expressed his dismay at the international community’s silence in the face of such atrocities. The Prime Minister also noted that both the ICJ and global media have correctly labeled the actions against Palestinians as genocide. “Israel has flagrantly violated every moral code with each passing day. Yet, the killing and destruction continue with no end in sight,” he remarked.

PM Shehbaz questioned how long this destruction would go unnoticed. He pointed out that Israel has become emboldened by the international community’s passivity and inaction. “Humanity has completely disregarded repeated calls for a ceasefire, humanitarian relief, and civilian protection,” he added.

The Prime Minister emphasized that international laws meant to protect the vulnerable have been completely disregarded. “The world watches in deafening silence as Gaza bleeds,” he said.

Pakistan remains unwavering in its support for Palestine’s right to self-determination. “We reaffirm our unflinching support for the creation of an independent, viable, and contiguous state of Palestine, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. This should be based on its pre-1967 borders,” he concluded. “This is the only path to justice and lasting peace in the holy land.”

At the start of the summit, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Palestine and Lebanon. He called for overcoming the disastrous humanitarian consequences of ongoing Israeli aggression.

    **Final Remarks**

In its closing statement, the summit leaders called on Israel to withdraw from occupied Palestinian territories as a prerequisite for regional peace. They stressed that achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region requires the end of Israeli occupation of all Arab territories. This includes the Golan Heights, Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, in line with UN resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

The summit reiterated its demand for Palestinian territories, including Gaza, to be part of a future Palestinian state. It called for the inclusion of Gaza, which is separated from the West Bank by Israeli territory.
