Kotli Sattian, a scenic hill town in the newly established district of Murree, is set to become a major tourist destination with the opening of a chair lift cable car system in April 2025, after a delay of four years. The local government has granted approval for the installation of the chairlift, which will offer breathtaking views of the rugged black mountains and dense forests in the area.
A budget of Rs 1 million has been allocated to prepare a feasibility report for the chair lift project, with additional funds expected depending on the bids received during the tendering process. The government has indicated that international companies may participate in the feasibility study to ensure high-quality implementation of the chairlift system.
The introduction of this chairlift and the development of the resort area are expected to significantly boost the local economy. Providing job opportunities for the residents of Kotli Sattian, an underdeveloped tehsil. The project also includes plans for the construction of hotels, motels, restaurants, and shops along the 123km tourism highway. Which will further enhance the region’s appeal to visitors.
The chairlift system will be located in Chewra village, known for its picturesque mountain views that extend to Mangla Dam, the Jhelum district. And even the bordering areas of Azad Kashmir and Occupied Kashmir, visible through telescopes. These mountains are notably higher than those in Murree, adding to the uniqueness of the new tourist attraction.
While the project was first initiated by the PTI-led Buzdar government with strong backing from Asif Mahmood. Who is the former Advisor on Tourism, it had been stalled following the change in government. However, much of the necessary infrastructure, including paved roads and established trails, has already been completed. The area has already seen growing interest, with families and youth camping and exploring the area.
The Department of Tourism, working alongside the District Murree administration. They is gearing up to open the new tourist destination in 2025. A special fair is being planned for the inauguration, with the Prime Minister or the Punjab Chief Minister. He expected to attend the opening ceremony.
