Bollywood Actor Mushtaq Khan Kidnapping in Meerut
The glamour of Bollywood makes it difficult at times to comprehend the harsh realities that celebrities may also face. It is quite recent that the pro actor Mushtaq Khan, best known for his unforgettable performances in films such as *Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke* and *Welcome*, faced a grueling journey that is a testament to how vulnerable even the most respected personalities can be.
An Invitation Turns Sinister
The incident began innocuously on November 15 when Khan received a number at his Mumbai residence from one Rahul Saini. He invited him to an event in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, to where some eminent personalities would be felicitated. Since Khan had been to numerous such events, the offer threw no red flags at once. In a bid to validate the intentions further, Saini promptly paid ₹25,000 token amount using UPI and booked Khan’s air tour from Mumbai to Delhi.
November 20, Mushtaq Khan set out without knowing that the danger was waiting for him. As soon as he touched down at Delhi, he boarded a cab that was arranged by Saini. The presence of two men in the car was pretty normal, but things turned ominous when he was asked to change cars. There were more passengers in the new car, and it further raised the actor’s suspicion.
Despite his protestations, his captors subdued him and used a sheet to cover his face. After several hours of traveling, he was taken to a remote house. There, the kidnappers published their intention and physically and psychologically tortured Khan to request his family to collect money as ransom. They also managed to transfer approximately ₹2 lakh from his telephone to their account.
In Narrow Escape
The night’s ordeal seemed interminable as the kidnappers drank themselves into a stupor, leaving Khan beneath their watchful eyes. However, their complacency turned out to be his chance. In the early hours, while his abductors had been incapacitated, the actor took the second to escape. Running out of the house, he ran to a nearby mosque. The cleric there gave him comfort and helped him talk to his family, finally getting him safe.
The Aftermath and Further Investigation
Still shaking his head over the frustrating experience, Mushtaq Khan’s employer registered an FIR on his behalf. The complaint no longer only sought the chilling chain of events but also called for rigorous action against the culprits. The Meerut Police have since opened an investigation, exploring possible links between this incident and the most recent kidnapping of stand-up comedian Sunil Pal.
A Wake-Up Call for Event Security
This is a disturbing incident, and it reminds everyone about the security concerns for public figures, especially during unsanctioned or not well-verified events. This also indicates the need for better checks and balances in place while accepting invitations to participate in public events.
Mushtaq Khan’s tenacity and ingenuity in the face of serious danger are laudable, but his experience is a lesson for all. While investigations continue, the focus of attention remains on ensuring justice and putting an end to such incidents from becoming commonplace in the future.
